Dhaka attack bomb supplier remanded

A Dhaka court today placed Sohel Mahfuz, supplier of bombs in the Gulshan café attack, on a fresh three-day remand in connection to Kalyanpur raid.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Jasim Uddin passed the order today after he was produced in the court and sought into remand.

Md Jahangir Alam, an inspector of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) and the investigation officer (IO) of the case, sought him in 10-day remand.

Earlier, on Sunday Sohel Mahfuz was shown arrested in the case after the investigation officer submitted a petition. CTTC has so far arrested five other accused in connection with the case.

They are: Md Salahuddin Kamran, Md Rafiqul Hasan alias Regan, Mufti Maolana Abul Kashem, Jahirul Islam alias Jashim, Abdur Rauf Prodhan. Of them, Salahuddin, Regan and Abdur Rauf gave confessional statement before a magistrate.

Sohel, known as an explosive expert, was remanded for 13 days in two phases. He was arrested in the bordering Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj on July 8.

Sohel, who played a key role in organising the JMB in Bangladesh and India's West Bengal, was most wanted in both the countries. He is one of the prime accused in the 2014 Burdwan blast case. The West Bengal police put Rs 10 lakh bounty on his head.
