The students of Brac University were continuing their demonstration till this evening protesting the alleged assault on a teacher.

About a hundred students, mostly of the law department, took position in front of the university’s building no. 2 since 9:00am demanding removal of three university staff for the “assault”.

The agitating students entered the building to press home their demands this evening.

At one stage, security guards drove out the students from the building forcibly, a student, wishing not to be named, told The Daily Star.

“A group security guards ousted us from the building forcibly. Even, they touched some of our female students,” an agitating student told our correspondent.

“Apart from this, the university authorities are threatening us in many ways to stay aside from the movement. Otherwise, we will have to face a serious consequence,” he alleged.

The students, however, threatened to continue their demonstration until the matter is resolved.

The students demonstrated on the campus yesterday over this issue.

Farhaan, a lecturer of the law department, filed a complaint against Registrar Muhammad Sahool Afzal, Assistant Registrar Md Mahi Uddin and senior officer over the alleged assault on him on Sunday.

On his Facebook page, Farhaan wrote he had been called to the registrar's office on Sunday and then to the human resources department where he was handed a cheque and documents for immediate termination of his contract with the university.

The university authority decided to form a committee to investigate the matter.

Meanwhile, the university has formed a three-member inquiry team to investigate the incident.

The body has been asked to submit its reports by seven working days from August 2.

Besides, Alumni Association of Brac University protested the alleged incident of assault on the agitating students and warned of tougher movement in this connection.

Tajdin Hassan, president of the alumni association urged all its members to gather at the university campus around 6:30pm tomorrow to raise their voices against the incident in a peaceful manner.

Tajdin said he would talk to the university authorities over the issue.
