‘Graft threatening waterway security’

Security in waterways of Bangladesh cannot be ensured due to corruption in shipping sector, speakers at a discussion said today.

Politics and muscle power are among the reasons behind the graft in the shipping ministry, said M Inamul Haque, member of National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways (NCPSRR).

The committee members voiced their concern on the issue during a press briefing held on the anniversary of a launch ML Pinak-6 capsize in the Padma river in 2014.

The press briefing was held this morning at Mukti Bhaban of Puran Paltan in Dhaka.

The speakers also demanded compensation to the families of the Pinak 6 victims and all other victims in waterways tragedies.
