Bangla bhai’s close aide held
Rapid Action Battalion members arrested a close aide of executed JMB leaders Shayekh Abdur Rahman and Siddiqur Rahman alias Bangla Bhai in Gazipur last night
Arrestee, Mehdi Habib Md Rafiq, 38, is a fugitive accused in three cases filed with Mymensingh Kotwali Police Station, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.
The cases, filed under Explosives Act and Special Power Act, include bomb blasts at Mymensingh Judge Court premises, Bangladesh Agricultural University campus and Mymensingh Press Club Complex on August 17, 2005, Rab sources said.
On secret information, a Rab-14 team raided the area and arrested him around 11:50pm, said Md Yuboraj Hossain, assistant director (Operations) of Rab-14.
Rafiq, hailed from Iqbalpur in Jamalpur, also used to motivate the people to join Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), he said, adding that he will be handed over to Mymensingh Kotwali after primary interrogation.
JMB chief Abdur Rahman, its operations commander Bangla Bhai and four other top leaders were executed in 2007 for killing two judges in Jhalakathi in a suicide bomb attack on November 14, 2005.
