AL staging drama over 16th amendment verdict: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today blasted Awami League leaders for staging a drama over the 16th amendment verdict and said the party does not comply with the court judgment if it goes against its interest.

“Some true observations came out through the verdict but Awami League is not eager to accept it,” Fakhrul said while distributing relief materials among flood victims in Thakurgaon.

He the government has lost legality to retain in power after the Supreme Court verdict that declared the 16th amendment to the constitution illegal.

“There is no legal ground of Awami League to stay in power and that has been established in the 16th amendment verdict,” Fakhrul said claiming that the Supreme Court has upheld some facts through its verdict.

Condemning Awami League’s efforts to create a “controversy over the judgment”, Fakhrul said his party hopes that good sense will prevail upon the government and it will hold a fair election under a non-party supportive management through talks.

India is responsible for flood in Bangladesh

Fakhrul blamed neighbouring India for worsening the country’s overall flood situation saying that the country opens all doors of its barrages during the rainy season without considering suffering to the people.

He also slammed the government for not initiating any necessary protective measures to salvage the people from the disaster.

He called upon the government to stand beside the flood victims with adequate relief materials by taking them in safe places.   

Fakhrul also urged his party men to shoulder the hardship of the flood victims by extending necessary supports including food and clothes to them.
