Govt gets more time to issue gazette on rules for judges

The government today got time until October 8 for issuing a gazette notification on the disciplinary rules for lower court judges.

The apex court adjourned the hearing until that day on the Masdar Hossain case, also known as judiciary separation case with which the issuance of the gazette notification is involved.

A six-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha adjourned the hearing following a time petition moved by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.

With this, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing for 23 times, following the government’s time petitions in issuing the gazette notification.

The SC on July 30 refused to accept in full the draft rules determining the discipline of lower court judges. The court expressed its dissatisfaction with the ministry as it made the rules by making a “U-turn” on the directives given in the verdict in the separation of judiciary case.
