Work to establish Bangladesh as a dignified country: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today called upon all to tirelessly work from their respective positions to take Bangladesh to a dignified position at the global stage.

“We all need to perform our own duties keeping in mind our motherland to establish it in a dignified position of the world,” she said.

The prime minister said this while speaking to the media while exchanging greetings with people from different walks of life, party leaders and workers, judges and foreign diplomats at her official residence Gono Bhaban on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

She said the government’s aim is to establish the country as a hunger- and poverty-free one. “I want blessings from people so that we could continue our journey towards the path of development.” 

Talking about the militancy, terrorism and drug abuse, the Prime Minister said this society has to be saved from these menaces.

Sheikh Hasina urged all the sections of society, including guardians, teachers, imams and other religious leaders, to take care of the youths so that they cannot slip into any wrong path. 

She said the government wants to establish the country as a peaceful one. “Bangladesh will be a peaceful country in the South Asia…this country will be built as a prosperous one.”

About the government’s various development activities, she said Awami League, after returning to power, has been working tirelessly to ensure the basic rights of people as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. “The people of the country are getting the fruits of that works.” 

The prime minister mentioned that Bangladesh is now a development model in the world as its GDP is now stands at 7.24 percent alongside marked improvement in the per capita income.  “We’ve managed to reduce our poverty rate to 22 percent, and we’ll be able to reduce it further, InshAllah.” 

Hasina renewed her firm optimism to turn the country in to a middle-income one by 2021.

The prime minister greeted the country’s people and all the Bangladeshis living abroad on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, wishing them a happy and prosperous life. She also greeted those Bangladeshi nationals now in Saudi Arabia to perform holy hajj.

Hasina, also the Awami League chief, first exchanged Eid greetings with a cross-section of people, professionals, party leaders and workers.

Bangabandhu’s youngest daughter Sheikh Rehana, PM’s daughter Saima Hossain, Awami League presidium members Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and Faruk Khan and senior party leaders were present. 

The visitors were entertained with semai, cakes, fruits and other sweetmeats.

Later, the prime minister exchanged eid greetings with Supreme Court judges and heads of diplomatic missions of different countries in Dhaka.

Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, judges of the Appellate Division and the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, Ambassadors and High Commissioners of different countries joined the function.
