10 bodies recovered as another Rohingya boat capsizes
At least 10 bodies of Rohingya refugees, who were fleeing violence in Myanmar's Rakhine state, were recovered after a boat capsized in Naf river in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar early today.
The identities of the deceased Rohingya refugees could not be known immediately.
With the latest incident, the death toll from the boat capsizes rises to 65.
The boat capsized in the river at Shah Pori Dwip in the upazila around 3:00am, our Cox's Bazar correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Police Station Md Mainuddin Khan.
Seven bodies were found at Shah Pori point while two others at Lumburi point and another at Moulvibazar point, Ukhiya Police Station Inspector (operation) Shafiul Alam told The Daily Star this evening.
Bangladesh has seen a fresh influx of Rohingya refugees fleeing from Rakhine state of Myanmar after violence erupted on August 25.
Meanwhile, the body of another Rohingya refugee was found floating in the river in Nila union of the upazila this morning.
Law enforcers pushed back 2, 649 Rohingyas to Myanmar after detaining them in different raids in the river, said Lt Col SM Ariful Islam, director of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)-2 battalion in Teknaf.
They were trying to enter Bangladesh territory in 24 hours till 9:00am today, he said.
The law enforcers gave some aid to them before sending them back to Myanmar.
