ACC launches armed unit with 20 cops
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today launched an armed unit with 20 police personnel in a bid to bring dynamism in its spontaneous fight against corruption and misdeeds in the country.
“This will bring dynamism and strengthen in our activities and will ensure security of our officials during drive against corruption,” ACC Director General Muhammad Munir Chowdhury said while receiving the armed unit at its Segunbagicha office in Dhaka.
The ACC officials face obstacles in many ways during drive against corruption, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of anti-graft body said.
“It is difficult for unarmed officials to carry out drives against corruption at different government offices like passport, land and BRTA. In this context, the armed unit will be helpful for us,” the ACC PRO said.
The 20-member armed forces will comprise a sub-inspector, four assistant sub-inspectors and constables.
In reply to a question, the ACC DG said the armed force will not take part in any investigation into any case but will accompany the ACC officials during their drives.
