Trekking out of horror
Going back is like drowning in the sea, said a woman residing in a makeshift camp in Teknaf. Her sentiment is shared by more than 125,000 other Rohingyas who have come to seek refuge in Bangladesh. Against the literal backdrop of burning villages, black smoke billowing towards the sky and unending gunshots shattering the silence, thousands of Rohingyas are making the journey into Bangladesh. Since the August 25 military crackdown began in Rakhine state, indiscriminate killing of Rohingya men, women and children have forced them to cross the border. In camps spread around Ukhiya, Tyingkhali and Balukhali, they have found some respite but the scars remain etched in permanence.
