Don’t rent out houses to Rohingya refugees: Cops
Police today instructed locals not to rent out their houses to the Rohingya refugees, who have entered Bangladesh following persecution in Myanmar.
The instructions of Bangladesh Police came amid escalating concern that the Rohingyas might spread out across the country.
Rohingyas cannot rent houses or take shelter in their relatives' houses and move out of their respective camps, said a press release of police headquarters.
The refugees cannot travel through any means of transportation by road, railway and river routes, Sahely Ferdous, assistant inspector general of police at Bangladesh police headquarters, told The Daily Star.
All transport workers and concerned people are instructed not to transport the Rohingya refugees anywhere to prevent them from spreading across the country, she said.
Bangladesh government has arranged shelters, food and medical treatment for the Rohingyas at the refugee camps in Cox's Bazar. They have to stay there until they can return to their own country, the press release further said.
