Students of 7 DU affiliated end hunger strike on assurance
Students of 2011-12 academic sessions of the seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University ended their daylong hunger strike this afternoon following an assurance from the university administration.
The protesters, demanding publication of the results of their honours final year examination, went to meet Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhteruzzaman at his office around 4:30pm.
The DU VC assured the students of looking into their demand "cordially", reports our DU correspondent.
"We have already sent a delegation from Dhaka University to National University authorities in Gazipur regarding the publication of the results," he said.
Earlier, the students gathered on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar around 9:30am and started the strike.
"We have submitted a memorandum to the DU administration on September 10 for publishing our results by September 16," Rakibul Islam Shanto, a demonstrating student, told the Daily Star.
As the DU authorities did not publish the results by the time, the students started the strike since morning, said Shanto, a student of English department of Dhaka College.
He also said they are not able to apply for any job as the authorities are yet to publish the results. "Our future is uncertain."
The seven DU affiliated colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College.
All the examinations of the colleges concluded in the first week of August.
