4 fishermen drown in boat capsize in Meghna
Four fishermen drowned as a boat capsized in the Meghna due to rough weather in Noakhali's Hatia upazila early yesterday.
They are Kamrul, 18, Rashed, 25, Abul Hossain, 16, and Rakib, 16. The four hailed from Adarsha village of the upazila.
Six fishermen anchored the boat at Janatarghat around 1:00am yesterday after they caught fish in the river. They were sleeping when the incident happened, said Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Hatia Police Station, quoting survivors of boat capsize.
The boat sank due to tidal surge triggered by sudden strong winds. Two of the fishermen managed to swim ashore, but the four went missing.
Police with the help of locals recovered the boat and bodies of the four in the morning, the OC said.
Mohammad Hanif, sub-inspector of Morshed Bazar police camp, said the bodies had been handed over to their families.
