Tofa, Tahura’s birthday celebrated
The first birthday of Tofa and Tahura was celebrated at their village home in Gaibandha yesterday.
Paediatric surgeon and Professor of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Shahnoor Islam, who headed the operation to separate the twins on August 1, went to their Gaibandha residence to attend the birthday party.
Dr Shahnoor, her family and another DMCH doctor Dr Muhit reached the house around 3:00pm and stayed there till 7:00pm, Shahida Begum, mother of the twins, told The Daily Star.
They have also gifted Tofa and Tahura new dresses on the occasion, the mother said.
About their health condition, she said, “The condition of Tofa and Tahura is now quite good. They can now sit on their own.”
Local UP Chairman Mijanur Rahman, the UP members and assistant commissioner (Land) along with hundreds of local people gathered at Tofa-Tahura’s house to celebrate their birthday ignoring heavy rain, Dr Shahnoor said.
"We had two separate cakes for Tofa and Tahura; one on behalf of the local district administration and the other on behalf of the doctors from Dhaka," she said.
Dr Shahnoor also said that they are now in a better health condition, but will require improved care and regular follow ups.
But the financial condition of their father is not satisfactory and the family is facing some economic challenges in taking care of Tofa and Tahura and their six-year-old brother, the doctor added.
