Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today arrested South Delta Shipping and Trading Ltd’s Executive Director Moshiur Rahman Khan in Bogra for misappropriation of around 3889.55 metric ton fertiliser.

According to the case statement, South Delta Shipping and Trading was given contract to transport 8500 metric ton fertiliser of Bangladesh Chemical Industries and Corporation (BCIC) to a buffer warehouse at Santahar of Bogra.

But, the contractor supplied only 4610.45 metric ton fertiliser to the warehouse.

BCIC’s former deputy chief engineer (technical) and warehouse in-charge Nabir Uddin Khan, however, certified that they received 8500 ton fertiliser and sold out rest of the fertiliser to the market.

ACC’s assistant director Aminul Islam filed the case today with Adamdighi Police Station against Nabir and former accounts officer of the warehouse Masudur Rahman.

Meanwhile, ACC today pressed charge sheet against two former government employee and Shailkupa municipality mayor in three separate cases filed over corruption between 2015 and 2016.

According to the chargesheet of one of the cases, former officer (cash) of Agrani Bank’s Kalkini Branch Samrat Mia in collaboration with others illegally transferred Tk 19.57 lakh to six clients’ accounts from the accounts of teachers of school, college and madrassas between June and August of 2016.

He cleverly managed cheque leaves of the six clients’ accounts and withdrew the money.

When the matter came into light, he returned Tk 3.65 lakh and misappropriated rest of them money.

Samrat was later suspended.
