An extravaganza of art
Oriental Painting Study Group (OPSG) in association with The Daily Star has organised a six-day (October 9-14) 7th Oriental Painting Exhibition 2017 at Zainul Gallery-1, Faculty of Fine Art (FFA), University of Dhaka (DU). Professor Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor of DU, will inaugurate the exhibition as chief guest. Eminent artist Rafiqun Nabi, noted poet Nirmalendu Goon, renowned sculptor Ferdousi Priyabhashini, Professor Nisar Hossain, Dean, FFA, DU and noted Indian artist Swapan Das will grace the opening ceremony as special guests. Dr. Malay Bala, curator of OPSG, will deliver welcome address at the event.
The exhibition will showcase diverse-themed oriental paintings by 26 master and contemporary Indian artists along with artworks by 25 renowned and promising Bangladeshi artists. Some of the artists whose works are on display include Benode Behari Mukherjee, Biren De, Devi Prasad Roy Chowdhury, Gopal Ghose, Indra Dugar, Kshitindranath Majumdar and Maniklal Banerjee from India; and Shawkatuzzaman, Abdus Satter, Tajul Islam, Rofique Ahmed, Jean Nesar Osman, Malay Bala, Sushanta Kumar Adhikary, Zahid Mustafa, Kantideb Adhikary and others from Bangladesh.
“We, by birth, inherit the aesthetic sense and thoughts revolving around the oriental way of life. The artworks, displayed at the exhibition, are reflective of that sense and thoughts with regard to their media, techniques and subjects,” said Malay Bala, the curator, OPSG and an Associate Professor and Chairman, Department of Oriental Art, University of Dhaka.
The exhibition will remain open for all from 11am to 8pm daily until 14 October.
Oriental Painting Study Group (OPSG) started its journey through holding a group art exhibition in 2009. The group also runs a studio called “Oriental Painting Studio” in Dhaka.
