4 VCs in AL’s subcommittee draft list

Four Vice-Chancellors and 11 teachers of different public universities are included in the draft list of the ruling Awami League’s sub-committee on education and human resources.

AL’s Education and Human Resource Affairs Secretary Shamsunnahar Chapa signed the draft list of 49 persons that included vice-chancellors, teachers, advocate and party lawmakers and leaders.

According to AL sources, the list is not final one; the party would finalize the list after discussion in party forum.

According to the party constitution, sub-committee would be formed for every secretarial department in order to make the activities of each department more dynamic.

The party has 19 secretarial departments.

Rajshahi University's former vice-chancellor Dr. Abdul Khaleque is made the chairman while Shamsunnahar Chapa is made member secretary of the sub-committee.

The four VCs that included in list are ---Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, National University Vice-Chancellor Prof Harun-or-Rashid, Jagannath University VC Prof Mijanur Rahman and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice Chancellor Prof Kamrul Hasan.

Of them, Akhtaruzzaman was elected general secretary of the Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) for three consecutive years since 2004, and vice-president in 2009 and 2011 from the teachers' pro-Awami League Blue Panel, Harun-or-Rashid was elected member of DUTA from Blue Panel while Mijanur Rahman was former presidium member of AL’s youth front Juba League and Prof Kamrul Hasan is the secretary general of Peshajibi Samannay Parishad, a platform of pro-Awami League professionals.
