Woman killed as Faridpur AL men clash
A woman was killed and at least 29 people were injured as two factions of ruling Awami League clashed over establishing supremacy in three villages of Saltha upazila yesterday.
The victim was identified as Jahura Begum, 60, wife of Manna Matabbor of Gobindapur village.
Police arrested four people in connection with the clash.
The clash took place between the supporters of Shar Ali Khan, a resident of Gobindapur village and member of Saltha unit AL, and Delowar Khan, a resident of Khagor village and AL supporter, around 11:00am.
Local said there was a longstanding conflict between Shar Ali and Delowar over establishing supremacy in the area.
They added Kanai Matabbor, a follower of Shar Ali, returned home after a long time on Monday. Hearing the news, supporters of Delowar vandalised and looted his house that evening.
An hour-long clash between the two groups followed and left Jahura dead and 29 others injured. A number of houses were also damaged during chase and counter chase in Gobindapur, Khagor and Gurdia villages under Atghar union.
