Nomads: New Asian Fusion Restaurant in Dhanmondi
If you have lived all your life in or near Dhanmondi, you know the dilemma of picking a place to eat out. All places have been visited and all cuisines tried and tasted.
Nomads is probably the first "Asian fusion" restaurant in Dhanmondi to come under the limelight within a short time, offering its customers a taste of authentic Thai, Malay and Mongolian grill. The restaurant is located in the heart of the locality, Dhanmondi road 5/A. It's in the same building where The Stage and Burger n Boost are located.
The restaurant has an elaborate menu, one that spoils you for choices and can be confusing because most of the dishes sound similar. Even then you can see that there are some broad categories and it helps if you pick one and then go through that more carefully. The said categories are: Soup, Appetizers, Salad, Mongolian Grill, Fish, Duck, Beef, and Stir Fried Rice and Noodles.
I picked steamed rice with stir fried chicken, ginger, mushroom, onion, and spring onion. Yeah, that's just one dish. Priced around 380 taka, it was hot and a good pick. Most items are combos of a curry and steamed rice. So, there's no need for you to order an extra staple. The plain rice pairs up well with the curries bursting with bold Thai flavours.
We also tried the Dim Sum (7 pieces at 399 taka), and Chicken Satay (5 pieces at 255 taka) that was served with peanut sauce. I found the Satay to be a little dry but the flavours were good. My friend tried the Wonton Soup with mixed seafood and it tasted fresh and fragrant. Crispy egg noodles in gravy with chicken seemed like a lot for one person. The two stir fried rice items seemed rather bland and I'd say it's better to go for the curries with steamed rice. Beef in red curry with coconut milk tasted a little sweet as expected. Mixed sea food with Tom Yum paste was spicy and hot. Stir fried squid with chilli, garlic and basil leaf was hot and perhaps the second best entrée. Each of these was around 350+ taka.
The food might seem a little expensive at this place but the prices are all inclusive. It's best to visit Nomads with big groups so that you can try out several dishes. Though each dish serves ones, the curries are big enough for sharing.
