Muggers stab 2 cops in Dhaka
Two police officials were stabbed by muggers when they tried to catch members of the gang in Hazaribagh Beribadh area of Dhaka last night.
Of the injured, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Hazaribagh Police Station Imtiaz Ahmed took primary treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital while Constable Golam Azam was shifted to Rajarbag Police Lines Hospital from DMCH.
A group of five labourers, who were returning home from work, approached the two on-duty police and informed them that a gang of muggers took their mobile phone sets and Tk 2,500, ASI Ferdous of the police station told The Daily Star.
The two police officials dialled the numbers of one of the looted mobile phones, revealing the muggers’ position nearby, Ferdous said.
When the policemen tried to catch them they stabbed Imtiaz and Golam, ASI Ferdous said.
Two muggers have been arrested from the spot while the others managed to flee the scene, Officer-in-Charge(OC) of Hazaribagh Police Station Mir Alimuzzaman said.
“We are looking for another mugger who stabbed our colleagues,” the OC added.
