Authorities have suspended seven detectives for allegedly kidnapping a businessman in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar early today.

Confirming the suspension order, Afjurul Hoque Tutul, additional superintendent of police in the district, told our Cox’s Bazar correspondent that a case will be filed against the seven in this connection.

The seven members of Detective Branch (DB) of police were detained and Tk 17 lakh ransom money was recovered from a vehicle in Teknaf, according to law enforcers.

A sub-inspector named Moniruzzaman fled the scene during the search at the check post, they said adding the money was recovered from the vehicle.

The DB men allegedly abducted Abdul Gafur, who sells blankets, from Teknaf yesterday morning. The kidnappers set him free in Marine Drive area early today after collecting the ransom, according to the lawmen.

The alleged kidnappers initially demanded Tk 50 lakh from Gafur’s family for his release, they said.

Informed by the family members, the team of the security forces conducted the search and arrested the alleged kidnappers along with the money.
