9 to die for killing a college student in Gazipur

A Gazipur court today sentenced nine people to death in a case filed for killing a college student in Gazipur city in 2010.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 Md Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan passed the order in presence of five convicts this afternoon.

The five convicts are in jail while four others on the run, our local correspondent reports quoting Additional Public Prosecutor Ataur Rahman.

The convicts are: Selim and Asadul Islam of Niamat Sarak area; Zahirul Islam alias Zakir Hossain alias Jantu of Uttar Chhayabithi area; Jewel of Bilashpur area; Bakka Suman of Sherpur district; Tauhidul Islam alias Preetam alias Pritu alias Etu of Dakkhin Chhayabithi area; Arif of Rathkhola area; Hanif of Samantapur area; and Ripon Ahmed jewel of Uttar Bilashpur area in the Gazipur city.

Of them, Selim, Hanif, Jewel and Asadul Islam are fugitives.

Shahdat Hossain Sohag, 22, an honours third year student of Gazipur’s Alam Government College, was stabbed to death by some of his friends on January 8, 2010.
