Community Policing Day to be observed Saturday
Bangladesh Police will observe “Community Policing Day” for the first time on Saturday to strengthen community policing.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque made the announcement while addressing at the conference hall of Police Headquarters today.
From now, the day will be observed every year on the last Saturday of October.
IGP said community policing is a voluntary job. “We want people from every community to be involved here to help the society,” he added.
Replying to a query that some community police have been involved with crime, IGP said that he has not received such complaint yet. “We will take action if we found anyone involved with any crime.”
According to PHQ database, the crime prevention centre (community policing) was established in 2008. In last two years, the community police resolved 9161 land dispute in 2015 and 21880 in 2016, 6388 money transaction and 12484 in 2016 and 6892 family conflicts in 2015 and 12832 in 2016.
