Tamabil Land Port inaugurated in Sylhet
Much-awaited Tamabil Land Port was inaugurated today along Gowainghat border in Sylhet which is expected to boost country's business with Indian states of Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland and Assam.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith and Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan inaugurated official activities of the port at 12:00pm in Tamabil of Gowainghat upazila in the district.

Tamabil is an important land port for importing coal, limestone, stone, fruits and exporting cosmetics, bricks and processed food. The port is the first land port in Sylhet division and 11th in the country.
In January 2002, Tamabil Customs Station was upgraded to land port. But in 2015, 13 years after the upgradation, authorities completed land acquisition and after that, the port's construction work begun. The land port was supposed to open in 2016 but slow pace in the constriction delayed the opening.
At the cost of Tk 69.26 crore, the land port was built on 23.72 acres of land of which 1,09,330 cubic metres were developed, 2500 metres of wall was built, 8180 square metres long internal road was constructed.
The authority also constructed 27 thousand square metres of open stack yard, a warehouse of 744 square metrse, two thousand metre long drainage system, an office, dormitory, barrack and five watch towers in the port area. The land port also has two weight bridge and two weight scale, each with the capacity of 100 tonnes.
During the opening ceremony, Parliamentarian of Sylhet-4 constituency Imran Ahmed, NBR Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman, Shipping Ministry Secretary Md Abdus Samad were present among others.
