Dissolution of parliament a must for acceptable polls: BNP
The next general election will not be held in a free and fair manner without dissolution of the current parliament and deployment of army, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today.
“We hope that the government and the Election Commission (EC) would take an initiative in this regard. Otherwise, the next general election will not be meaningful and acceptable to all,” Fakhrul said.
He was talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of the party founder late president Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of Dhaka this noon marking the 39th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal.
Again terming the electoral talks of the EC as eyewash, Fakhrul said the prevailing political crisis will take into an extreme turn if the upcoming parliamentary election is held under the management of the incumbent government.
Yesterday, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda told in a media briefing that the election commission has the jurisdiction to deploy army during the national election and it will take a decision in this regard later.
