Six ducks and a Sabbir ton

Six Bangladeshi players failed to get off the mark on the first day of their three-day encounter against India A in Bangalore yesterday and had Sabbir Rahman not scored an unbeaten century, the visitors would have already conceded a huge lead by the end of the day.

6 for 4; that's exactly how the scorecard read after six overs were bowled in the morning session at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as Ishwar Pandey and Varun Aaron ran through Bangladesh A's top order.

Anamul Haque, Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das were sent back to the pavilion before they could open their account, while skipper Mominul Haque scored two before getting caught behind.

Sabbir and Shuvagata Hom, then, shared a century stand to provide

some respectability to Bangladesh's total. Sabbir scored an unbeaten 122 off 131 balls – an innings which featured 23 fours and a six.

Shuvagata, who is in fine form on this tour, scored yet another half-century before being dismissed for 62.

However, the revival from the middle order lasted for a very short period as once that partnership was broken, with Jayant Yadav sweeping through the tail.

From182 for 6, Bangladesh A were bundled out for just 228. India's reply, in contrast, began in a dominating fashion. Openers Abhinav Mukund and skipper Shikhar Dhawan raced to a 150-run stand and covered three-fourths of the total in just 30 overs.

Dhawan remained unbeaten on 116 off 112 balls, hitting 16 fours and two sixes. Abhinav was dismissed at the fag end as the hosts reached stumps at 161 for 1.
