The High Court today directed the government to stop pneumatic horns across the country including Dhaka.

The court also directed authorities concerned to form surveillance team to control the sound pollution at different places including Gulshan, Dhanmondi and officers club area in Dhaka under the relevant environmental laws and rules.

Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah came up with the order following a petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh seeking necessary order.

Inspector general of police, deputy inspector general (high way), joint secretary traffic and BRTC chairmen have to comply with the High Court directives, Advocate Manzill Murshid, the lawyer for the petitioner, told The Daily Star.

On October 8, the HC directed the vehicle owners and drivers all over the country to handover pneumatic horns to the concerned police stations within 15 days.

The court also asked police to destroy the pneumatic horns soon after getting those in hands.

Earlier on August 23, the HC directed the authorities concerned of the government to take necessary steps in 48 hours to stop the use of pneumatic horns used by vehicles in Dhaka city.
