HC rejects Sohel Rana’s bail plea
The High Court today rejected bail for Sohel Rana, owner of Rana Plaza which collapsed and resulted in the biggest industrial disaster of the world, in a graft case.
In the case, a lower court sentenced Sohel Rana to three years in prison for not submitting his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Today, Sohel Rana’s bail plea in the case was rejected by the bench of Justice Abu Bakar Siddiquee following opposition of ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan.
The bench however admitted Sohel Rana’s appeal against the lower court verdict and called for the case record from the lower court.

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that Sohel Rana cannot get released from jail following the order.
Sohel Rana was sentenced to three years simple imprisonment in a corruption case filed by a Dhaka Court back in August 29, 2017. The court also fined him Tk 50,000, and an additional three-month jail in default.
The ACC on May 21, 2015, lodged a case against Sohel Rana on charge of accumulating wealth illegally. ACC filed the case with Ramna Police Station.
