Arrest Patuakhali fake doctor: HC

The High Court today further ordered the police to immediately arrest Rajon Das, an alleged fake doctor of a clinic in Patuakhali, for conducting the operation of a woman leaving cotton inside her abdomen in March this year.

The court also directed the officer-in-charge of Baufal Police Station in Patuakhali to produce Rajon Das before it on December 10 for using a false medical practising certificate [Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council registration certificate].

The HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque passed the order after OC of Baufal Police Station Monir Hossain today appeared before the judges and said that the police are yet to arrest Rajon although they have taken necessary steps to detain him.

Earlier on November 6, following an inquiry report submitted by the civil surgeon of Patuakhali, the HC bench had ordered the OC to arrest Rajon and produce him before it by November 15 for the same charge.

In the report, the civil surgeon said Rajon Das, who conducted the operation of a woman leaving cotton inside her abdomen in March this year, was a fake doctor and used false certificate, Assistant Attorney General Arobindu Kumar Roy told The Daily Star.

On August 23 this year, the same bench issued a suo moto (voluntary) rule following a report headlined “Sare tin mas por pet theke ber holo goj (cotton brought out from abdomen after three and a half months)” published in the Bangla daily Prothom Alo on July 22.

According to the report, the cotton was brought out from the abdomen of one Maksuda Begum, 25, wife of Russel Sardar from Bilbilas village in Baufal upazila, through an operation on July 12 after she was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.

Earlier in March, Maksuda gave birth to a baby daughter at Niramoy Clinic in Baufal through a caesarean section, and after a month, she felt severe pain in the abdomen.

Maksuda’s digestive tract has been infected as the cotton remained in the abdomen for a long time, the report said quoting a doctor of the hospital.
