Verdict on 5 Moulvibazar war crimes accused any day
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 will deliver verdict any day in a case filed against five Moulvibazar men for allegedly committing crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam kept the verdict waiting after it completed hearing from both the prosecution and the defense counsel today.
The accused -- Yunus Ahmed, 71, Ujer Ahmed Chowdhury, 63, Samsul Hossain Tarafder, 65, Nesar Ali, 75, and Mobarak Mia, 66 – are facing five war crimes charges.
Of them, Yunus and Ujer are now in jail while the rest are on the run.
Prosecution sought capital punishment for all the accused claiming to have been able to prove all charges while the defense prayed for the acquittal of the accused.
The prosecution pressed the charges against them on May 26 last year and the tribunal framed charges on December 8 the same year.
