Fire in a jar at Newton's Archive

Four friends spending time together by default owing to their classes at university together is not a very unusual scenario for anyone, but this particular group had their heads buzzing with ideas and hearts fluttering with dreams, which happily enough for us brought about the creation of 'Newton's Archive.' The beginnings were only a soft ripple in the ocean, which now is full of waves worthy of being surfed upon.

Ishmam Shafi, Sabrina Rahman, Aurni Tasnim, and Rahnuma Ahsan initially opened a page in 2016, named 'Bardots and Newton' reviewing products, which appealed to their aesthetic, had a sense of luxury and pleasure about them, alongside ample utility, making sure that your money spent would be put to use.

With blessings from above and beyond, they were called to exhibit their products at a fair in Kiva Han, and they braved the crowd with a handful of goodies and a number of canvas paintings. While they enjoyed the response, they were also faced with the desire to add something even more personal to their collection, and after countless brainstorming and research and design sessions, the four friends decided on making 'Hand Poured Scented candles' developed with a certain theme in mind.

On this note, Shafi shares, "Having four people in the team helps us come up with more diverse collections usually as we have personalities that are a bit different, so it really helps bring out the diversity. Having said that, we only bring things that are approved by everyone in the team."

Officially beginning in January 2017, Newton's Archive has been present at a number of events, starting with the 2017 Spring, and, Monsoon meetups and even at the Cookups Baker's Street with their candles embodying the sweet delectable aroma of many all-time favourite desserts for just about anyone.

The Fall Collection saw a series of candles close to many fanbase hearts and some even ringing nostalgia of the childhood such as 'the Mystery Machine,' which was specifically made keeping in mind the Halloween and also the season of fall, so the scent incorporated was the very popular — 'Pumpkin Spice!'

Then they had '11,' needless to say inspired by Stranger Things Season 2, perfect for winter as the candle gives off warm wafts of waffles and maple syrup on cold evenings.

Though they had a range of bakery and dessert inspired scented candles to go with the themes, such as the 'Bughead' with a chocolate fudge and creme brule scent coming from the popular series Riverdale, they also had other candles, some which were comebacks owing to the demand that balanced the indulgent tones with 'fruity, woody and fresh' scents.

The collection included 'Velaris' which had a lime and mandarin scent and packaged in a rose gold tinted jar, another candle in the family of those inspired by 'A court of Mist and Fury' or Court series, alongside 'Rhysand.'

They also brought back 'Sherlock,' which had the "unique scent of burnt oak with a hint of tobacco" to bring us the peace we need to enter our Mind Palace; other favourites such as the Harry Potter House set and F.R.I.E.N.D.S inspired 'I'll be there for you' were also available.

All these candles come at quite reasonable prices too, ranging from Tk 600 to Tk 750, especially keeping in mind that the candles are hand poured and made with a tonne of love, making each one an individual piece, in addition to the fact that they last for ages.

Besides this, Newton's Archive and the four friends who set forth on this journey, also plan to expand their range of products, which currently include bookmarks and canvases besides the hand poured candles.

They have started taking bulk orders to make themed candles for various events such as weddings, birthdays or any event, and their first order was close to their own heart and home- making candles for the IBA Graduation of BBA 21, 2017. The candles were called 'Sitaron Ki Mehfil,' showing love and appreciation to their seniors who light the path that lies ahead of them.
