Mahmudur sued for ‘derogatory remarks’ on Bangabandhu, PM

A local Awami League leader in Natore today filed a sedition case against Amar Desh Acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman for making “derogatory comments against Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina”.

The Awami League leader also lodged a defamation case against Mahmudur claiming Tk 1,000 crore as compensation in this connection, reports our Natore correspondent quoting Advocate Malek Sheikh, the plaintiff of the cases.

Malek, organising secretary of the district unit Awami League, lodged the case under sections 123 (Ka), 124(Ka), 501, 502 and 505 with the Natore Chief Judicial Magistrate court this noon. 

After hearing, the court ordered Natore Sadar Police Station to investigate the matter.

While speaking at a seminar at the National Press Club on December 1, Mahmudur Rahman “termed Bangladesh as a colony of India”. He also said that “Sheikh Mujib had destroyed the country’s democracy and described the present government is an illegal one”, according to the statements of cases.

Mahmudur Rahman insulted Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through the remarks, Malek added.
