‘Criminal’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with cops in Tejgaon
A suspected criminal was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area during the wee hours of today.
Deceased Abdullah, 30, from Kishoreganj, was a wanted criminal, Md Rasheduzzaman, an inspector of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station, told The Daily Star.
As the inspector described it, police launched a raid upon information that a group of robbers were preparing for a heist at the BG Press field around 3:30am.
Sensing presence of police, the criminals opened gunfire on police and the law enforcers retaliated with the same. Abdullah was caught in the line of fire, the police official said.
After the gang managed to flee, the law enforcers found bullet-hit Abdullah lying on the spot.
Abdullah was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital ( DMCH) where doctors declared him dead.
He suffered three bullet wounds on his chest, Sub-inspector Bacchu Miah, in-charge of DMCH police camp said. His body has been kept in the Dhaka Medical College morgue.
A revolver, three bullets and two machetes were recovered from the spot.
The “gunfight” also left two police officers including Md Rasheduzzaman injured, police said.
