Man ‘hangs himself’ after wife’s death in Rajshahi

A man is believed to have committed suicide right after his wife died in Rajshahi's Bagha upazila today.

Abdul Mannan, 48, a rickshaw-puller in the upazila, went missing for a while after his wife died in the wee hours before being spotted, hanging from a tree by the noose.

There is no notion of murder in the inquest report, Rezaul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station, told our Rajshahi staff correspondent this morning.

Police said, Mannan's wife Kajoli Akhter, an asthma patient, fell ill last night and was rushed to Bagha Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead around 2:30am.

According to their son, Rishan Ahmed, the couple had a "very good and loving relationship".

Both bodies have been sent to Rajshahi Medical College morgue for post-mortem.
