DU staff ‘assault’ campus journo
A group of Dhaka University staff allegedly assaulted a campus journalist today.
The victim Kabirul Islam Kanon, correspondent of daily Ittefaq and third year student of department of Mass Communication and Journalism, has filed a written complaint in this regard.
He forwarded the letter to the university’s Vice Chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman, demanding punishment of the “attackers”, our campus correspondent reports.
According to Kabir’s complaint, he went to the university’s registrar building this morning to verify allegations against the building’s officials that they are always late to office.
Some staff of the registrar building attacked him suddenly while he was filming empty administrative rooms around 11:00am, reads the complaint.
They also snatched his mobile phone and hurled abusive words claiming themselves as activists of ruling Awami League’s student front Chhatra League, Kabir added.
The reporter identified the attackers as Section officer Nizam Uddin, Ahsanul Kabir and personal secretary to the university Registrar Sheikh Giyas Uddin.
Terming the incident “unfortunate”, Akhtaruzzaman said stern action will be taken in this regard.
