Fifteen-year-old Ontora calling passengers to board a Mirpur-bound BRTC bus in the city's Farmgate area. She took the job of a helper around six months ago. Working from 8:00am to 5:00pm, she makes Tk 150 daily. Many commuters look at her in disbelief as the risky job is usually taken up by men. She also faces many challenges in the job. Most of the roads below flyovers in the capital now look like this. Even in the dry season, this road in Demra area beside the Mayor Hanif flyover in Jatrabari remains submerged with sewage, causing damage to the bituminous surface of the road. As a result, accidents and damages to vehicles are rampant there. The photo of a bus stuck after falling in a large pothole hidden under stagnant water was taken on Monday. Photo: Prabir Das

Day by day road users are becoming increasingly restless -- especially the bikers and pedestrians. Most of the bikers do not follow traffic rules or appear to lack proper training. The pedestrians, on the other hand, are seen jaywalking as they please. Their careless manoeuvres on the road often cause serious accidents and sometimes fatalities. The photo was taken at the capital's Bangla Motor intersection on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue yesterday. Photo: Amran Hossain
