Flights suspended at Dhaka airport for 8 hrs
Flights at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were suspended for more than 8 hours today due to dense fog, causing delay of at least 23 flights on international and domestic routes.
“Flight operation at the airport was suspended from 1:30am. The operation resumed 9:30am,” said Rezaul Karim, spokesperson of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, told The Daily Star.
Of the 23 flights, eight were bound for Dhaka airport from different international routes while 14 were bound for different domestic destinations, said Rezaul Karim.
All the incoming flights were diverted to different airports in India and Myanmar which were scheduled to land at HSIA in between 1:30am to 4:30am, added Rezaul.
The domestic flight operations were resumed at 9:30am and international flights at 10:15am, sources at the airport said. Besides, departing flights of Biman and other foreign airlines were stuck at the airport till 10:30am.
Airport sources said domestic flights of Biman Bangladesh airlines, Novo Air, US-Bangla Airlines and Regent airways were delayed due to dense fog.
