4 held over ‘IS link’ in Mymensingh
Police arrested four people, including a schoolboy, from different areas in Ishwarganj upazila on Friday and Saturday for their suspected link to Middle East-based militant outfit Islamic State (IS).
The arrestees were identified as Fahim Al Foysal, a class X student of Atharobari High School and son of Jahurul Islam of Fatehnagar area in the upazila, Mizanur Rahman, 30, Haidar Ali, 30, and Bodiul Haider, 31, in the upazila.
Police said the authorities of Shohagi School caught Foysal while distributing posters with headline, ‘Call from Middle East’, and leaflets of the militant group on Friday afternoon.
Later, he was handed over to police.
After primary interrogation, Foysal admitted that he is an activist of IS, said Borhan Uddin, officer-in-charge of Ishwarganj Police Station.
Later, a team of police of Ishwarganj Police Station in another drive arrested three people - Mizanur, Haidar and Bodiul - from different areas of the upazila on Saturday noon.
They were handed over to Detective Branch (DB) of police for further interrogation, the OC added.
