Winter likely to start settling in from tonight
Winter is likely to settle in from tonight as the Met office forecasts mercury to come down, maybe below 8 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country, as January progresses.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department, in its monthly outlook, predicts that January is in for a medium-range cold wave and two to three other mild cold waves in Bangladesh.
Also, there is likelihood of rain in this month, according to the monthly outlook.
Met Official Md Abdul Mannan told The Daily Star that a dip in temperature is likely to be felt tomorrow. “We expect that the winter feel is likely to settle in from tomorrow.”
Today’s forecast chart says, the minimum temperature in Dhaka might come down to 13 degrees Celsius – the lowest in the last seven days, hinting of the spate of cold spells to come.
According to him, the month of January will experience a series of temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius, and in some cases, might fall below 8 degrees Celsius in some parts.
Most of the cold is likely to be felt on the northern and north-western regions of Bangladesh. Foggy is likely to settle in on the river basins and the northern, north-western and north-eastern parts.
“January is the coldest month in Bangladesh. This year will be no different. The cold is likely to persist for the rest of the month,” Met Official Md Abdul Mannan said.
