Murder accused killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab in Jessore
An accused in a murder case was killed in a “gunfight” with the members of Rapid Action Battalion in Jhikargachha upazila of Jessore early today.
Deceased Pulsar Babu, 35, was the prime accused in a case filed for killing a local Awami league activist Abbas Ali at Dostopur School Field in the upazila on January 3, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-Charge of Jhikargachha Police Station Sheikh Abu Saleh Masud said.
Abbas Ali was the brother of Kamal Hossain, general secretary of AL’s student front Bangladesh Chhatra League, the police official said.
Acting on a tip-off that a group of criminals were gathered for a meeting at Mirzapur village around 4:00am, Rab members started patrolling the area, said Rab-6 Director Major Ziaur Rahman Zia.
Sensing presence of the Rab members, the criminals fired shots at them triggering a “gunfight”, Director Major Ziaur Rahman Zia said.
Two Rab members—Mahbub, 45 and Hasan, 47, -- were also injured in the incident.
A pistol, a magazine and a sharp weapon were recovered from the spot.
