JS goes into 19th session tomorrow

The Jatiya Sangsad goes into its 19th session, also the first in the New Year 2018, tomorrow where the president is scheduled to deliver his speech.

The session is scheduled to start from 4:00pm on the day, sources at the Parliament Secretariat said.

The president is likely to talk about the government’s development activities along with other important national and international issues.

This might be the last speech of President Abdul Hamid in the tenth Jatiya Sangsad as the next parliamentary election is likely to be held in late this year or early next year.

Duration of the New Year’s session usually becomes long as lawmakers are supposed to take part in a thanksgiving motion on the president’s speech, approved by the cabinet.

Before the House sitting, the business advisory committee of parliament headed by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury would sit at 3:00pm to finalise the duration and other businesses of the session.

The 18th session of parliament ended on November 16 last year with five working days.

The 10th parliament was formed through January 5, 2014 national election, which was boycotted by the BNP-led alliance and most of the other political parties.
