A Dhaka court today allowed police to interrogate former national team cricketer Shahadat Hossain’s wife for three days at jail gate in connection with the torture of their 11-year-old house help.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Younus Khan passed the order after police produced Nrittya Shahadat before his court with a five-day remand prayer.
After sending her to jail, the court directed police to complete the interrogation within the next five working days, said Shafiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Mirpur Model Police Station.
Police arrested her last night in Dhaka in a case filed for torturing the girl.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested her from one of her relatives’ house at Malibagh, Syed Kaiyumuzzaman Khan, deputy commissioner (Mirpur Zone), told The Daily Star.
“We are trying hard to arrest Shahadat,” the DC said.
On September 6, Mahfuza Akhtar Happy, domestic help, brought allegations of torture by Shahadat and his wife.
The girl was later rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
A case was filed against Shahadat and his wife with Mirpur Police Station on September 6 in this connection.
Meanwhile, Shahadat had filed a general dairy on the same day regarding his house help going missing.
On September 13, pacer Shahadat was temporarily suspended by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
