New contempt of court law soon: Minister
Law Minister Anisul Huq today said the government will take initiative to pass a bill on fresh contempt of court law in the parliament as the Contempt of Court Act 1926 has become almost redundant due to extension of media.
The government will take the initiatives very soon in consultation with relevant stakeholders, the minister said while speaking as chief guest at a workshop on judicial reporting organised by Law Reporters’ Forum at the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
The law minister also said the journalists have to be cautious while reporting on the judiciary so that the dignity, prestige and image of the judiciary remain upheld.
“If the journalists discharge their duties properly, the country will be benefited.”
Meanwhile, addressing the workshop, the SCBA Secretary AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon said most of the government employees are involved in bribe and corruption. People have to bribe them for getting their services.
Journalists should report on these activities, he added.
