‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with cops in Sundarbans
An alleged robber was killed in what Naval Police claimed a “gunfight” in Sarankhola range of the Sundarbans under Bagerhat district this morning.
Deceased Farid, 38, was the second-in-command of a robber gang, locally known as “Choto Bahini”, our Bagerhat correspondent reports quoting Mohammad Kabirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sarankhola Police Station.
On information that a fisherman was abducted, a team of Naval Police went to the Sundarbans but sensing their presence, the members of the robber gang fired shots at them. The policemen then fired in retaliation.
After half hour of the alleged “gun battle”, the robbers retreated leaving the body of Farid on the spot.
The body has been handed over to Sarankhola Police Station from where it will be shifted to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
