DNCC polls: Nomination filing until Jan 18

By-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation that fell vacant after death of former mayor Annisul Huq will be held on February 26, the Election Commission announced today.

Deadline for filing nomination has been set for January 18, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda said while announcing the election schedule at his office this afternoon.

According to the schedule, January 21 and 22 have been set for scrutinising the nominations submitted. Deadline to withdraw candidacy is January 29.

“The Election Commission is considering this election as of significant importance,” CEC Nurul Huda said while briefing. “We expect support from all stakeholders. We hope this will be a vote festival.”

Former mayor Annisul Huq, a celebrated personality, died abroad in December last year, vacating the mayor post of Dhaka North City Corporation.

Additionally, the ward council elections to 36 new wards added to Dhaka north and south city corporations will also be held on the same date – February 26.
