Pabna medical shut after BCL infighting
Pabna Medical College was closed for an indefinite period today following an infighting of ruling Awami League’s student front Bangladesh Chhatra League.
At least 10 students of the medical college were injured in the clash over supremacy, our local correspondent reports quoting police and witnesses.
Campus sources said, the clash broke out between supporters of President Mahfuz Nayan and the group of General Secretary Aditya Dey around 1:00am.
As a sequel of previous enmity, supporters of both groups engaged in the clash that left at least 10 students injured, Abdur Razzak, officer in charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station, said.
Following the incident, authorities of the college closed the campus for indefinite period, he added. Students have been asked to vacate halls. Additional police forces have been deployed.
Talking to journalists, the Pabna Medical College unit BCL President Mahafuz Nayan and General Secratery Aditya Dey blamed each other for the clash.
Pabna Medical College Principal Dr Md Rizaul said: “Tension has been prevailing for the last few weeks over formation of Rotary Club and Medicine Club.”
“After today’s incident, the situation has turned critical. The medical college has been closed for an indefinite period and the students asked to vacate halls,” he added.
