Ferry services on the two major routes in Shimulia-Kathalbari and Paturia-Daulatdia in the Padma river were disrupted early today due to dense fog.

In Shimulia-Kathalbari

The ferries came to a complete halt from 2:30am to avoid any untoward incident, our Munshiganj correspondent reports this morning quoting Shah Newaz Khalid, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTA).

Seven ferries were stranded with thousands of passengers in the middle of the river amid sever cold weather, Khalid told our Munshiganj correspondent.

In Paturia-Daulatdia route

Meanwhile, UNB adds: ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed after eight hours of disruption caused by dense fog this morning.

“The ferry services were disrupted from 2:30am due to poor visibility caused by thick fog,” said Nasir Mohammad Chowdhury, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha.

Later, the ferry services resumed around 10:30am as the fog disappeared, Nasir added.
