Fourteen-party alliance will extend all-out support to the mayoral aspirant who will get Awami League ticket for the Dhaka North City Corporation by-polls scheduled for February 26.

Mohammad Nasim, spokesperson of the 14-party alliance, today came up with the announcement after a meeting at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka this noon.

“Awami League-led 14-party alliance will select a lone candidate in the mayoral by-polls and we all will work together for ensuring victory,” Nasim, also presidium member of AL, said.

When asked about BNP’s proposal for dialogue, Nasim said: “There is no question to hold talks with them (BNP).”

The next general election will be held according to the constitution and BNP will not go out of the constitution, Nasim said adding that the Awami League-led alliance is prepared to face any plot if is hatched ahead of the election.

Terming BNP’s demand for dissolution of the parliament before the national election as unconstitutional, Nasim said the present government will be in the state power during the parliamentary election.

Pointing finger at BNP, the Awami League leader said a group of the vested quarter is hatching an evil effort to grab the state power through an unconstitutional means.
