Arrest warrant for 5 Noakhali ‘Razakars’
A tribunal in Dhaka today issued arrest warrant against five suspected war criminals of Noakhali for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the country’s 1971 Liberation War.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 led by Justice Anwarul Haque passed the order in response to a petition placed by prosecution seeking arrest warrant for the five “Razakars”.
Earlier in the day, the prosecution submitted three formal charges against the five before the tribunal.
Prosecutor Zahid Imam told the court that investigators have completed probe against the five war crimes suspects. They need to be arrested and kept in jail so that they cannot flee, he said.
The five accused allegedly killed at least 111 people in Sudarampur upazila of Noakhali district, the prosecutor added.
Nine people were killed in another incident by the five accused during the Liberation War. Besides, two more people were killed by them during the 1971 war.
