A Decade of Inclusivity
Sporsho Braille Prokashona celebrated the completion of its decade-long journey through a day-long festival at Bangla Academy on January 6. 200 invited guests, from almost all spheres of society, took part in the festivities. An inclusive performance of the national anthem kick-started the event. The remaining segment of the celebration was titled “Amar Kotha”. It included an award giving ceremony of a competition on debate, chess and music. It also featured the launching of the first ever CD by inclusive participants comprising of able and persons with disabilities. There was also the launching of Smart Controller Glasses, a brainchild of Sporsho, which can help visually challenged people with navigation. The celebrations also included displays of Sporsho's previous works, different board games taught to those with visual impairment and even a pitha stall to go with the winter spirit, among others. Sporsho Braille Publishers, founded in 2008, is the first organisation in Bangladesh to publish Braille books for the visually challenged. The organisation also works with empowering children using an inclusive approach by reaching out to everyone, particularly those who are visually challenged.
